Shri Karma Raja Maha Vihar Monastery is a main seat of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa in Nepal. The current monastery building structure has gone through progressive transitions since its establishment with the contribution of many local and foreign Buddhist donors. In early 70s, previous 16th Karmapa visited and stayed here for several months conducting precious empowerments, teachings and giving audience to several hundreds of disciples. Since than, the monastery had been among the first to preserve the traditional monastic curriculums and meditation practices under the direction of the lineage holder, The 16th Karmapa. After his demise, His Eminence Shamarpa, the second in Karma Kagyu lineage has taken the role of Karmapa.

At present, 60 monks are accommodated in the monastery. Green Tara practice in the morning and Mahakala practice in the evening is done on daily bases. Moreover, monthly practice of Vajrayogini and other vajrayana practices are regularly conducted. Grand Mahakala practice for nine days at the end of lunar year, Guru Rinpoche practice on spring and Vajrakilaya on fall is also done accordingly with the tradition.
Many of our Lamas (Monks) are elderly and served the lineage vigorously at their prime time. Each one of them have unique story of how they have escape from Tibet due to Chinese occupation and serve Karmapa to restore unbroken Karma Kagyu practices in exile.

About the KHCP-Karmapa´s Healthcare Project

"Among many issues we face, health and hygiene related problems are primary. Several of these issues are avoidable easily however not without the proper understanding and education of personal healthcare.

When KHCP-Karmapa Healthcare Project came into being, more lamas have come to awareness of personal healthcare due to its comprehensive and applicable guidance.
KHCP has been the only source for education on healthcare for the monastery initially.
