Karmapa’s Healthcare Project has been running for 6 years now and has become a well-organized association of volunteer teams working on diverse topics in different areas...Currently, 15 monasteries/schools of the Kagyu lineage are drawing benefits from KHCP’s activity...Medical and dental-camp-tour in Bodhgaya, Pokhara, Jomson and Muktinath. Here we worked with a mobile dental treatment unit up at 3800m altitude for the first time...The students in Kalimpong, Takdah/Darjeeling and the institutions of Shamarpa, Nedo Rinpoche and the nunnery in Rumtek successfully ran independently organized medical camps... March 25, 2012: Brain tumor operation
In early march Pia, Peter, Khenpo Sherab (KHCP) and Dr.dent.Gisela Huber and Augustin went to the Dhulikel Hospital near Kathmandu/Nepal. Here they had a nice talk to Dr.med.Ram Shreesta, the founder of this and further hospitals in Nepal which serve specially the poor people. After both sides had introduced their acticities, he said "... we have the same spirit" and he offers a colaboration (treatments and education) for the future. 3 weeks later the KHCP could sent the young Gendun from Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche's school for a brain tumor operation.
Collaboration with the Dhulikhel Hospital Kathmandu University Hospital (DHKUH) in Kathmandu/Nepal
Since 2012, a collaboration has developed between Dhulikhel Hospital Kathmandu University Hospital with its Director Prof. Dr. Ram Sheestra and the KHCP.
What was at first planned as a medical contact point has now developed to be a platform for a combination between medicine and social work. Local doctors and medical staff are hired by the KHCP... Monks and nuns can learn in the environment of Dhulikhel Hospital by being guest observers or by taking part in workshops on medical topics...

KHCP-Dental- and Optician Camp at K.I.B.I. in New Delhi/India
...our physicians Susanne and Philip gave first aid and hygiene teaching to the residential monks of the KIBI. Later, short before Karmapa´s course, the KHCP provide profound eye examination and dental treatments. Pia and Peter had a long works meeting with Jigme Rinpoche (Secretary of H.H.Karmapa). Rinpoche emphasized the importance of this social project of Karmapa and he renewed the KHCP as the leading project in the charity/health section and together they talked about the new duties.

With the fruitful colaboration of the KHCP-physicians with the Manang-Social-Services-Committee and their physicians and the new cooperation with "Dentist & Friends" from Munich as well the launching of our new optician team we could manage hundreds of treatments.

12/2011: 4th KHCP-Medicalcamp in Bodhgaya/India
The Kagyu Mönlam 2011 took place between December 14 and 20, with approximately 11,000 devotees in attendance... For the fourth time this year, the KHCP - Karmapa´s Healthcare Project provided free medical checkups and healthcare for participants in the Mönlam as well as the local population...

KHCP- works meeting with Manang Trust and local doctors
A nice works meeting of the KHCP-team (doctors), the direction of the Manang Trust and local doctors took place. All together we visited the new common clinic room at Swayambhu, Kathmandu. Here we talked how to install the furniture and medical stuff. Mobile units will enable dental treatments, ENT and general medicine.
Note: Second Mobile Dental Unit for Use in India:
Our first dental unit is being used successfully: we thank the company DTS Design Dental Technical Systems for their generous pricing. At this time, we are raising funds for a second unit, which we will need for logistic reasons.
